It’s an incredibly exciting time for Netball in the Netherlands! With our community expanding rapidly in local clubs and our presence growing internationally, we are entering a new phase of development. Netbal Nederland is looking for an inspiring, collaborative, and forward-thinking volunteer to join our Board as President (Voorzitter) to help guide our strategic growth toward full NOC*NSF recognition

Time Commitment: Approx. 5-8 hours per week (flexible)

Location: Remote / Work from home (with occasional in-person meetings and events)

Term Length: 3-year term (possibility for re-election if you choose to do so)

Role Overview

As President, you will provide strategic leadership to Netbal Nederland, serving as a guiding anchor for the association. You will work closely with a passionate board to shape our long-term vision, keep our goals aligned, and represent our growing community within the broader Dutch and international sports landscape.

A key aspect of this role is managing and checking in regularly with working groups and ensuring all portfolios remain up to date and aligned with their goals. In this way, you are truly the engine that keeps driving our progress forward. This is a collaborative leadership role designed to fit around your professional life while giving you the platform to make a lasting impact on a growing national sport

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership, Governance and Compliance

• Steer Netbal Nederland’s vision and multi-year strategic plan (meerjarenbeleidsplan), setting targets for growth, participation, elite pathways, and financial sustainability through grants and sponsorships.

• Lead weekly board meetings, quarterly Bond Council discussions, and the General Assembly (ALV) with an open and inclusive approach. 

• Act as the central project management driver by regularly checking in with working groups to ensure all board portfolios stay on track and aligned with strategic goals

• Offer guidance and light-touch support to fellow board members while acting as an objective mediator for governance disputes or operational bottlenecks.

• Work with the board to maintain basic Dutch non-profit standards (WBTR) and keep aligned with NOC*NSF integrity and safeguarding guidelines as they evolve.

• Ensure decisions are made transparently and in the best interest of the entire netball community.

External representation

• Act as an approachable ambassador for Netbal Nederland with key partners, such as World Netball, Europe Netball, local municipalities, and NOC*NSF.

• Build positive relationships that open doors for venue access, funding, and community growth.

• Represent the association at key national tournaments or international catch-ups when available.

Working with the board

• Work with the board to maintain basic Dutch non-profit standards (WBTR) and keep aligned with NOC*NSF integrity and safeguarding guidelines as they evolve.

• Ensure decisions are made transparently and in the best interest of the entire netball community.

Requirements

• Experience in a leadership, management, or collaborative governance role (prior board experience is great to have, but not required!).

• Professional fluency in written and spoken English; working knowledge or fluency in Dutch is a great advantage, but not essential.

• A practical, positive approach to problem-solving and team management.

• High integrity, strong organizational skills, and a genuine passion for building grassroots sports.

• Willingness to commit to the role and collaborate effectively with a remote team.

Important note on eligibility: To maintain objective and neutral governance across the sport, this board role is not compatible with any active board positions at local netball clubs within the Netherlands.
